Working as a vet's technician in Paradise Cay, Florida, Samantha Holt is used to dealing with animals in need--and sometimes the humans who bring them in aren't in such great shape either. But when a basket of wet, undernourished kittens turns up at the back door--on the very same morning that one of the clinic's clients turns up dead in a nearby canal--Samantha wonders if there's a connection.
