Life was very pleasant, thought Susan Cheyne, as she walked through the grounds of her father's villa in Switzerland. She had completed her survey on coastal pollution for the International Geophysical Committee, and she could look forward to a few days' holiday before returning to England to write up the report, and to see Joe Dowson again - the man she had met so recently and who shared so many of her interests.
