College Second Semester

Mindy, Kathy, Amy and the rest of the team learn that at this level of softball the competition can sometimes be your Best Friends. The Tuesday night game is a replay of the Monday night game except that Mindy and Amy combine for a no-hitter against them. Ramona pitches flawlessly for six innings, but is not feeling well so they replace her for the first time in the tournament. We have had no more success than they have scoring in this game. In the top of the seventh we have our last at bat before they have one more shot to win it. With one out Kathy has a chance to be the hero again, but just doesn’t get enough of this one to clear the fence, Bobbi hauls it in at the fence for out number two. Dayna fouls off two straight pitches before connecting with the longest hit she has ever had as well. This one doesn’t quite make it out of the park, but with Dayna’s speed she is around second before the outfielder gets to it. It is going to be close at third, but nothing is stopping her on this one. She goes into a head first slide away from where the base person is and just gets her hand on the bag before the tag is put on. It is a tense couple of seconds until the umpire calls her safe. When she does the whole place goes berserk. There is only a few short moments to celebrate because they still have to score and West Virginia has to be reckoned with in the last half of this inning. Jessica gets a single scoring Dana, which ends the scoring for us in the game. Join Eddie, Mindy and the rest of their ever expanding group of friends as they strive to reach some of their lifelong goals and realize that it is not always as gratifying as we think it will be.
