In the mid-1990s, a senior Russian official claimed that perhaps hundreds of miniaturized nuclear weapons developed by the Former Soviet Union, so-called “suitcase nukes,” appeared to have gone missing. Although no information was ever produced to substantiate the claim it remains a mystery why the allegation was made, or if it was true.

What if such an incident were to occur today, the weapons falling into the hands of terrorists? What would it be like to be at the epicenter of hunting them down? John Eccles, a part-time consultant for the CIA knows all too well.
