About This Book

In an all-too-near future laws are made by Enforcers, parents are allowed only two children, and only legals have the right of home and work. Among the lowest of the illegals are children driven from their families and onto the streets.

Eryyn and Sawyer live as most street kids do, by picking pockets and breaking into houses for trinkets to pawn. Few kids survive the streets for long. There is always the chance of being sold to factories or farms for slave labor--or worse. If they would live, they must work for The Foreman, who runs his gangs of kleptos with an iron fist. When the brutality of their lives at last gives Eryyn the courage to fight back, she and Sawyer use their only weapon--their wits--to draw street kids into rebellion. But they also draw The Foreman's eye.

Accustomed to being obeyed, those who dare once resist never do again. As they fight for the right to live, Eryyn and Sawyer can trust no one. How far will The Foreman will go to keep his power over the sparrows?
