The Pacific Northwest: a place unique in all the world for its dark, wet, green beauty...and its penchant for producing serial killers. The historic coastal town of Fairingham, Washington, is now getting a taste of that horror. The town's storied endurance race from Mount Baker to the sea delivers a tourism windfall and feeds its economy. But the course travels through a secluded section of the Chuckanut Mountains â€" one where it appears missing victims get grabbed. Enter protection in the form of Lee Bodkin, deep-woods bounty hunter, Olympic style wrestler, and all-around violence enthusiast. With avid biathlete and sniper Gladdis Montrose as well as his wolf-hybrid Sheba, the trio is on task and few predators are safe. Their goal: protect hundreds of racers from a calculating carnivore, one that strikes out of nowhere and which nobody in town has ever laid eyes on. At least, nobody who remains alive. But what appeared to be a simple security gig develops a wicked twist. Before the race is over, Bodkin, Montrose, and Sheba will be targeted. Guns, knives, fists, and fangs may not be enough to help them survive.
