About This Book

This novel tells the story of a long and bloody Civil War as well as the love of a devoted husband and wife. Charles I, sovereign of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales had been married a month before he met his 15 year old bride. She was Henrietta Maria, petite and innocent daughter of a King of France who'd been assassinated only weeks before. When they finally met, there were whispers among some of the licentious courtiers who had surrounded Charles' debauched father. It was said that the marriage would never be consummated. The marriage between Charles and Henrietta was troubled and bitterly unhappy for the first three years, but only when Charles had won her physically and mentally did Henrietta return his love. But Charles and his Queen went on to live one of the greatest love stories in history -- one that was never to end until the King finally stood alone on the scaffold.
