The Hardys have come to Lake Tahoe to investigate the kidnapping of movie star Richard Chase. The disappearance is the latest in a series of suspicious incidents that have plagued the filming of Chase's latest flick, Horror Hotel. The boys are convinced that, the cause of the sabotage lies deep underground.

Years ago a mine shaft collapsed, claiming the lives of a number of miners. The mine was sealed, and the cause of the cave-in was buried with it. Frank and Joe vow to return to the scene of the accident. But the deeper they dig, the more terror they find—for the abandoned mine has become a real-life horror hotel, a dark maze of danger, death, and deceit.
