It was no use -- no use at all. Cathy Taylor's promising acting career -- her whole life -- suddenly seemed doomed to fail. Wildly, impulsively, she had quit her Hollywood job and driven cross-country in hope of doing summer stock in Upstate New York with the famous director Alex Reardon. She arrived to find every part cast. She was out in the cold!

For a brief time it seemed possible to work as his assistant. But now she had to get away -- go anywhere! She could accept the fact that she would never be his leading lady.
