Aging film star Patty Rose came to Molena Point, California, to enjoy her golden years running an inn. She didn't come there to be murdered. But it's Patty's body a cat named Kit discovers after hearing three shots fired. And the curious tortoiseshell has already scampered off to investigate when the police arrive--followed by Kit's cat friends Joe Grey and Dulcie.

Joe is certain Kit's heading for big trouble. But Dulcie has troubles of her own, namely helping to hide a young runaway girl in the local library ... a child who may be tied into a grisly and terrifying scenario connected to the actress' slaying.
