Daniel O'Brien is the master carver of carousel horses and he has just returned home after the Civil War has ended to a complex web of love, sex, broken friendship, and deception. Daniel is drawn to Eirinn McKevett, the daughter of his best friend, a woman he must by all accounts not love.
