The Albino has sent a squad of convicts to Moy Hall to kill everybody there in revenge for Calum taking back the stolen herd.
Calum and John race north to intercept the assassins but they know they will be too late, the convicts have too much of a start.
Lady Anne and Magdalene are marked for death, but not until Hangman and Silky have done to them what they have done to so many others, and for which they were going to hang. Until Lord Eustace Forbin picked them and they were free.
Even though they know it is hopeless, Calum and John ride through the night.
But in the darkness there is an unseen helping hand.
