About This Book

(A novella) In 1953, Coronation Year, wartime rationing is almost over. Things can only get better. Daniel is leaving school. He gives up his part-time job at the warehouse where such puzzling things have happened. He wants to work as a mechanic but Mum wants him to aim higher and to marry a better class of girl.
For a council-house boy, son of a lorry driver, the choices are limited. Daniel doesn't want an office job. Marcia's parents don't want a working-class son-in-law. Daniel must earn a living somehow, even if he hates every day of it. But then he discovers a secret and some photographs. A hard-bitten war veteran tells him a story that might be the answer he is looking for.
