Broken Promises

Mary Hochstetler and Isaac Studer sit on a fallen log hidden inside a stand of trees and pledge their love to each other. During his rumspringa, Isaac leaves Hollybrook to live with his cousin in another state, but he promises to return and marry her. Isaac does leave. But after seven letters, he goes silent. Mary waits and waits. Three years of silence go by, but she still harbors hope that he will return to her as he promised. Mark Schrock has pined for Mary for as long as he's known her. After painstakingly pursuing her, he convinces her to give up on Isaac and to date him instead. Mary finally agrees, and they end up marrying. Mary struggles to love Mark the way she loved Isaac. The challenge proves to be greater than she ever dreamed. And just when she hopes that it might happen, the unthinkable occurs: Isaac Studer returns to Hollybrook expecting to claim his bride.
