It's 1914 and Freddie Chevalier is desperate to leave his family farm in Jersey and join the cavalry with his best friend, Charles Baldwyn. He soon discovers that war isn't the glorious event he'd imagined and when he betrays his best friend with the woman they both love, their friendship is shattered. When one of them receives a life-changing injury, Freddie, Charles and the women closest to them have to learn to live with the choices they have made.

Broken Faces is a story about unrequited love, the horror of war and discovering that you don't know yourself or those closest to you, nearly as well as you thought.

Broken Faces was a runner up to the Good Housekeeping first novel Award and won a special commendation in the Harry Bowling prize.
