In Neveryon, slavery is nonexistent, and three long tales explore the life of the legendary manGorgik the Liberatorresponsible for freeing the empire's slaves. Seen through his own eyes (``The Game of Time and Pain''), Gorgik is a man still caught in his past. To others, however, he is a shadow on the horizon of their lives (``The Tale of Rumor and Desire'') or else a collection of facts (``The Tale of Gorgik''). Delany's artistry as both writer and storyteller rises to the surface in his latest addition to the Neveryon cycle. Recommended. JC
