Wally Hatford dreams of long, lazy days far away from school and even farther away from Caroline Malloy. Dream on, Wally. As the best speller among the Hatford boys, Wally gets roped into helping his brothers with a summer newspaper project that will earn the twins school credit. But does Wally get any credit? No way.

Some girls work on their tans, but Caroline is working on her aura so she'll be noticed as a special person. She's special, all right, Wally thinks: she's nuts!
With three issues to fill, the Hatford boys and the Malloy girls are busy writing and putting the Hatford Herald together. Wally's hoping he'll have his super scoop by the final edition, even though he's not sure what it is.
