About This Book

The Karekelah control the land around Lake Bonneville, and the Karekelah are ruled by a ruthless king called Akbal who makes the people pay high taxes, and executes people who oppose him. He learns of three groups who are about to invade his territory and sends out his army to crush them.
The Malecites to the south have known the Karekelah for many years and they have traded with each other. But they have also been enemies performing raids with each other capturing women and children to be soled as slaves. The Malecites because they had destroyed their environment where they live must move into the land south of the lake which is controlled by the Karekelah.
The Hidatsa were driven from their homes in the east and move west in search of the great lake of mystery for a permanent home. They have to go through tall mountains in order to get to the lake and want to live by the lake which they know belongs to the Karekelah.
The Hastshin are a people of the northern territories where there is still a lot of ice and snow and they want to move to a land where they would have plenty of wild game to eat.
