Bonner Incident

Civil forfeiture: the government's ability to seize, keep, and sell any property of any person they believe is involved in a crime…even if that person is innocent. All it takes is for an officer of the law to ‘think' the items were obtained through criminal means. The person is presumed guilty and must prove innocence to get back what was taken and the government doesn't have to provide legal counsel.
