The world's diamond industry is about to explode into anarchy. In Russia's frozen north, a newly discovered mine is yielding the most beautiful and rare gems the world has ever seen -- the red diamonds called "bloodstones". Ivan Karakov, the wiliest, most powerful jeweler in the industry, is about to sign an exclusive agreement with Moscow to sell them. Directors of Diamond Enterprises, the international diamond governing board, assemble from all over the world to stop Karakov from destabilizing their control of the trade. But there is plenty of deceit and betrayal, even among their own rank-and-file, as each member of the board is forced to come to a decision about what he or she is willing to sacrifice for the glittering bloodstones.
