About This Book

1992 Paul Parker, a young South African metallurgist, is studying in Turkey. He and Irene Yilmaz, a Turkish peasant girl, become lovers and Irene falls pregnant. They decide on an illegal abortion and Maria Ayaz arranges the abortion. Doctor Ahmet Atilla performs illegal abortions to raise money to leave Turkey and also rapes the pregnant girls while they are under general anesthetic. Irene enters the building to have the abortion. Paul hides nearby and recognizes the doctor who attended to him previously. While Atilla is raping Irene she regains consciousness. The doctor strangles her. Outside, Paul falls asleep. Atilla tells Maria to go home, erases all evidence of their presence in the apartment and dumps Irene’s body in the sea. He then murders Maria. Paul awakens, can’t find Irene and returns to his apartment. Inspector Ali Karacan of the Istanbul Police arrests Paul for the murder of Irene and Maria. Atilla denies being at the abortion building. Paul faces life in jail but the police find Atilla’s fingerprints in the abortion apartment. The doctor flees Turkey and Paul returns to South Africa. 1999 Atilla, practicing neurosurgery in South Africa under the name Ismet Illata hears of a psychological researcher, Selwyn Brink, who has a microchip which, when implanted in the human brain, blocks individual distant memories. Brink is financing his research through drug sales. Paul Parker sustains serious head injuries in a car accident. Illata recognizes him and obtains the memory-blocking microchip from Brink by blackmailing him and implants the processed chip in Paul’s brain, blocking Paul’s memory of him. Atilla also plans to marry Paul's sister. Can anything stop him?
