"You never knew, then?"
"Knew?"
"I was pregnant, Harry. When you left, I found out a couple of weeks later."

I never knew I had a son.

So, imagine my surprise when I ran into an old girlfriend, thinking it was a nice walk down memory lane, only to learn she'd given birth to my son and gave him up. With my permission.

At least, she thought she had my permission.

"You have to go find him," my sister, Libby, told me a few days later when I poured the whole story out to her. "He's your kid. You owe it to yourself to know he's okay."

And that was exactly what I planned to do.
