About This Book

Maud Hart Lovelace, author of six historical fiction novels and eighteen children's books, is internationally known for the Betsy-Tacy children's books. Her first novel, "The Black Angels", was published in 1926. This fascinating story is set in Minnesota and opens in the days before the Civil War. This book is reprinted exactly as the 1926 original with the exception of new cover art and the Afterword. The following quote is from the original 1926 dust jacket. "They were called the Black Angels from the time they first appeared in Minnesota, a crew of black-hiared, bright-eyed youngsters, so unlike thier flaxen haired father - seven of them there were, and each one forever singing, except Joseph , who could not tell one note from another. Music was a passion for them from childhood. Small wonder, then, thay they greeted with enthusiasm Benjy's plan for an Operatic and Concert Troupe; or that they set out with high hearts open for the venture, thinking their covered wagon a golden caravan."
