A journalist is given the simple assignment of writing about internet dating sites. His editor insisted that Michael looked at the more perverted end of the dating scene. He reasoned that his readers wouldn’t be interested in sugar sweet dating sites. They wanted the low down about online dating. Sites that had become the focus for cheating husbands and wives, fetishists, swingers, prostitutes and escorts. You name it and our reporter was soon in the thick of it.
For a couple of months Michael enjoyed his most gratifying assignment yet. Several gratuitous couplings gave his ego the boost it needed after a bruising divorce. Then Michael meets Ruby, a beautiful, emotionally damaged young woman. She has extreme masochistic tendencies. Michael is desperate to find out why Ruby needs to be humiliated this way.
As their relationship develops, Ruby shows Michael some of the web-sites she’s used. They stumble across Caleb & Ruth’s profile. A less than attractive looking couple and Ruby breaks down completely. She leaves Michael and he never sees her again. For Michael to make sense of things he needs to get close to Caleb and Ruth. He makes contact through their web-site and his descent into hell begins.
Michael soon finds out horrific things about the odd couple. But instead of seeking the safety of distance, Michael found himself in amongst child rapists, prostitutes and murderers.
Out of his depth, he still tracks Caleb and Ruth inexorably. With the police asking questions about Ruby’s disappearance on one hand and a depraved couple on the other. Michael needs to find out the truth and quickly.
