Growing up in tiny Lake Genesis, Wisconsin, Rachel McAllister had always been like a kid sister to Jake Kowalski--much to her chagrin. Now she was all grown-up, and fate had bestowed a second chance to win his love.

But the Jake who came home for the holidays wasn't the optimistic man Rachel remembered. Life's rough path had left him jaded and grim. Rachel knew the old, warmhearted Jake still existed somewhere, but it would take a miracle to bring him back....

Jake didn't believe in Christmas cheer, or in much of anything anymore--including love. Even Rachel couldn't change that. All he wanted was to be alone in his misery ... until a mystical visitor appeared to give him hope....
