Considered by the vast majority of academics as implausible evidence of an ancient culture of remarkable people - causes a stir in modern times with the dicovery of the captain's log from a sailing vessel that sank in a storm off the African coast two centuries before. A lone archaeologists Dr. Guy Williams, who devoted the last half of his career to securring not just irrefutable proof the ancient culture existed, they were responsible for major social and scientific advancements as well as metaphysical secrets - he also believed the people did not die out. Years after retiring, the ailing Dr. Williams is approached by a younger colleague Dr. Jack Sutter, who has followed Williams' work. Seeking distance and distraction from a haunting indiscretion, Sutter gathers five vital professionals from both sides of the 49th Parallel - who also sign on for private reasons other than scientific discovery.
