In the fall of 1850, Becky Harrigan´s parents receive a letter from their former neighbors telling of their trek to the Oregon Territory earlier that year. The letter praises the new land and urges them to come to Oregon. The promise of free land is enticing and in early spring 1851, Becky´s parents and several of their Ohio neighbors set out for the Oregon Territory. The story covers the turmoil and anxiety of the immigrants from the day of receipt of the letter to the day they arrive in Oregon City, Oregon Territory, September 1851.
