Asymmetric Warfare

The giant U.S. military machine defends American shores against any aggressor who dares approach. However, in a David and Goliath or "Asymmetric" conflict, a small, mobile terrorist force could get the upper hand. Asymmetric Warfare opens with a surgical raid on a major U.S. airbase, followed by terrorist events in two U.S. cities. FBI Special Agent Shelby Coulter, Deputy Chief of the Domestic Terrorism Operations Section of the FBI's Strategic Information and Operations Center (SIOC), has to discover how they are linked. Before her investigation has a chance to focus, two more cities are hit. The following week the terrorists target two more. Terrorist cells, led by a mobile and dangerous fanatic, move quickly from city to city. They create panic and destruction with explosives and chemical weapons. If a terrorist cell is incapacitated, well-trained and disciplined replacements stand ready to take its place. Coulter's resources stretch to the limit as the FBI stays a step behind the terrorists. During a raid on a dive motel, one of her teams obtains information that chills her soul. As she closes on the links between the events, the terrorist leader diverts a cell to assassinate her. Throughout the story, Coulter struggles with the emotional impact of her father's murder and finds herself drawn to the CIA agent assigned to her SIOC team. Asymmetric Warfare is a look at how vulnerable America really is. Could an asymmetric war begin here? Perhaps it already has.
