About This Book

In his capacity as counsel for the Loring Matsen law firm, legal representatives of the CIA, John Cann this time finds himself in Amsterdam to monitor the Scottish Court proceedings dealing with the two terrorists responsible for the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in December, 1988. After meeting Colin Hardie, an expert on Scottish law who will attend the proceedings with him, both witness an assassination attempt on a Libyan official apparently by a relative of victims of the bombing of the 747. While the violent attempt on the life of an official of the country widely held responsible seems understandable to many, including Cann, it quickly becomes apparent that all is not as it seems - indeed nothing is at it seems. Not in Amsterdam - nor back in Washington, DC. Once again, Macomber's novel spans the Atlantic but never loses sight of the individuals caught up - and harmed - in the global intrigue that shapes events. His character development has been remarked upon as almost unique in the thriller genre - you care about the good people and despise the evil ones - and there are plenty of those to go around. This 'edge-of-your-seat' thriller takes the reader from Amsterdam's seedy Canal district, to Virginia's CIA headquarters and even to the innermost circles of the White House. And finally, when the twisted events unravel, the tense rescue and shocking conclusion will leave you breathless and you'll again be touched by the strength and the compassion of this intelligent, articulate, and sometimes ruthless hero.
