ARLENE

Arlene seemed out of place on Moloka'i. She never spoke pidgin English and she never swore. She was from San Francisco and had met Rocky at the Monterey Jazz Festival, where he played lead guitar in an acid rock band. She married him when the band broke up and they moved to his family home on Moloka'i. Rocky couldn't hold down a job. He'd go on drinking binges, party with local girls, and accuse Arlene of cheating. Arlene was hired by Aloha Airlines as a reservation agent. Rocky poured sugar in her gas tank and blamed her when the engine seized.
