About This Book

Anton’s grandfather arrives from Scotland to visit his family. Anton is excited about his arrival. He can’t wait to tell him about all the new things in his life. His new friends, his little sister Miliana and his dog Raffles. Danda doesn’t feel well upon his arrival but is sure the feeling will pass. Anton invites his friends to listen to Danda tell about his WW2 experiences. The boys leave and Anton goes back to his grandfather’s room and sits on the floor beside his bed. He’s worried about him as he doesn’t look well. Anton reminisces about previous trips and all the exciting things they did together and wonders if they will ever do anything together again. He gently touches his grandfather’s hand and leaves to do his homework. Mom calls Anton for supper on her way to Danda’s room with a supper tray. Moments later, she enters the kitchen in tears. Danda is dead. Anton is upset and stays in his room until the day of the funeral. As he stands by the casket he sees a plane in the sky and remembers his grandfather’s wish to be remembered each time a plane flies overhead. Anton wonders if the plane is Danda’s way of telling him he’s at peace. The clouds swallow the plane until only a bright light remains, a light similar to a shining star. It’s then that Anton decides that that’s how he’ll remember Danda...a bright and shining star in the sky.
