Crossword editor Belle Graham has just spent a day out with her new friend Karen when they discover Karen's husband has been kidnapped. Neither Belle nor her P.I. hubby, Rosco, has met the upstanding Dr. Dan Tacete -- but he's got a flawless reputation as a successful oral surgeon who donates his skills to those in need.

Karen's fear turns to grief when her husband's body is found at the bottom of a ravine. But Rosco's investigation reveals that Dr. Dan had a very dark side -- and his charity work may not have been so charitable. As the investigation exposes Karen's own disturbing past, Belle must wonder: Just who were Dan and Karen Tacete? And, more importantly, who wanted Dan dead?
