Nathan Applebe is long past his glory days playing high school baseball, yet he still enjoys a friendly softball game on a quiet summer night. But his peaceful pastime is blown apart when an old opponent returns to town after a decade absence.

Brent Baliss used to be the best, but his pitching days are long behind him. He doesn't much care for the game anymore, yet signing up for the softball league gives him a chance to live a fantasy he's had since the night he kissed a shy boy under the bleachers.
