It is Christmas Eve in Sugarcreek, Ohio, and also washday. All of the women have done their laundry early, except Beth Miller, who is grieving over the loss of her sister.
Newlywed Ruth Yoder, who lives next to Beth Miller, is juggling her new role as a wife and homemaker on Christmas Eve, with only chocolate walnut fudge left to make for her future guests. However, she is lonely and misses sisterly chit-chat. Will they fill the gap that each woman needs through sisterly friendship this holiday season? Will Beth get her laundry done?
