The third installment in the America’s Eighty-Fourth-Street Boys series, The Hive finds the heroesâ€"Quez Martin and his friendsâ€"escaping the clutches of the Favela Kid Gang (FKG) only to end up imprisoned by another enemy. The Hive initially appears to be friendly toward Quez and his friends, rescuing and protecting them from Beto and the FKG. But when Quez attempts to leave the Hive to rescue family members and his girlfriend, Carmen, who are being held captive by Beto and the FKG, he runs up against a rule that prevents him from leavingâ€"ever.
Quez and his comrades quickly hatch a successful plan to escape. That plan gets complicated when Chloe, the daughter of the Hive’s leader, goes with them. As they make their way to Eighty-Fourth Street, they face many threats. The Hive is after them because they not only broke the rule but also took one of the Hive’s own. And Beto, who tries to win Carmen over, wants nothing more than to kill Quez.
