Heartland is a horse farm nestled in the hills of Virginia, but it's much more than that. Heartland is a place like no other — a place where the scars of the past can be healed, a place where frightened and abused horses learn to trust again.

At summer's end, Amy will be leaving for college, and she can't help but notice that everyone has already started making decisions without her. When a paint horse arrives at the stable, no one is willing to tell Amy his true history. The gelding's fear seems a mystery, until a sudden accident jolts Amy back to her deepest and most painful memories. In a haze of grief and guilt, Amy struggles to make peace with her past. And she comes to realize that she will always carry the magic of Heartland with her . . . even if she has to say good-bye.
