"That blasted Ranger's still doggin' our tracks, Dan," my partner Ed Thornton informed me, after checking our back trail. "We haven't been able to shake him."
"Well then, I guess we'd better do somethin' about him, Ed," I answered. "You want to handle that?"
"You know I do," Ed answered, grinning in anticipation. The man was a natural-born killer. "We won't see him again; count on it."
"All right. Fall back and get rid of that Ranger. I'm comin' with you, just in case you need a backup. Rest of you keep ridin'. We'll catch up with you."
"Never have needed help killin' a man yet, Dan," Ed objected.
"I know, Ed, but this outfit always plays it safe. You know that."
