About This Book

Lieutenant Freddie Williams played World of Warcraft to escape family misfortunes and the war in Iraq. After an IED attack shatters his mind and body, he descends into his own fantasy world where he pursues quests like in the game. But in this game, the goal is not to get to the next level, but to find a reason to live. As Freddie emerges from a medically induced coma, he lapses in and out of a dream where he becomes Frederick, Prince of Stormwind. Faced with a series of trials, he wanders the castle, meeting elves and demons, and Rebecca, a gardener who makes him believe that goddesses are possible. In the real world, Freddie has a different set of trials: to learn to walk again, to unlock the memories hidden in his war-scarred brain, and to overcome the demons of his past. But his greatest challenge is to find a place in his heart for Becky, the physical therapist with the power to raise him from hell.
