About This Book

After a series of seemingly unconnected events, 17-year old Kaitlin is thrown out of the house by her angry alcoholic father. Alone, shocked and devastated, she has nowhere to go. How will she manage? High school offers some refuge and she has a part-time job but this isn't nearly enough to manage. She visits a filthy squat with homeless drug addicts and alcoholics. Winter is coming and it would provide a roof over her head. She needs that roof but it's a poor option and she can't bring herself to enter that dark, dangerous world.. Kaitlin eventually discovers a group of teens living in a makeshift shelter in the woods. Never really warm, they do manage. They're like a family, look after each other and work hard at keeping their whereabouts a secret from the authorities. Then one young teen gives birth in the icy frozen campsite. Now everything changes. The authorities discover their hideaway, clean out their shelter and remove the teens. But they miss Kaitlin who is off at school. She is alone again. Now what? Disaster piles on top of disaster. Who can she trust? Isn't there anyone out there? Somebody? This is Kaitlin's story, a story that happens far too often. This is her struggle with homelessness, fighting the odds and how she discovers that she has a Mighty Helper who was there all the time. She was never alone.
