Private Investigator Sam Marksman left his job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to strike out on his own; preferring to choose the cases he investigates. He's a single man and lives on a sail boat which also serves as his office. Sam's simple life turns upside down after a casual November sail with Leona Parker. While investigating three separate cases, he finds himself thinking of her more than he'd care to admit. An attorney in Baltimore requests Sam's services to uncover the person or persons involved with forging a will. Sam leaves the forgery case open to investigate a missing child in Portland, Oregon. Throughout his investigations, Sam is intrigued with a case developing in New Orleans regarding a missing woman and jumps at the chance to assist in finding her.
