As a beautiful young woman married to a much older, wealthy man, Joanna has the life of a woman of leisure: a great deal of comfort, and little satisfaction. With her husband "going through a phase" of disinterest in her sexually, Joanne decides to embark on a phase of her own...

Venturing out in the afternoons, she discovers the mysterious O, a woman whose employees help clients explore the bounds of pleasure and pain. Her initial experiences are a shock to the senses...a shock that leaves her wanting more.
