After the Stars Fall

"Your father loved you," Zack told her gently

"Near the end he was in terrible shape," he added. "He never got over losing you." Zack knelt beside her and took her in his arms. " `Beautiful blue-eyed Jay Jay, the prettiest colleen in Christendom,' " he whispered in her ear, quoting her father. "The way he talked about you I was a little in love with you even then."

"Don't say that!" Jana begged. "I'm not ready for that -- not yet."

Jana wasn't sure what she was to Zack Devlin at all. She felt so happy with him that she'd avoided thinking of any tomorrows. Was that how her father had felt those many years ago when he'd created headlines and heartache by falling for his leading lady?
