Just a few months removed from the events of "Conjoined," Eliza Dunbar is still struggling to come to terms with her mother's murder. She looks far and wide trying to find inspiration, without success—including an explosive political scandal in town that would normally get her journalistic juices flowing—only to find it much closer to home. In fact, she finds it right in her house!

When her children discover a secret room hidden behind the walls of her office, it opens up a forty-year-old mystery. And when Eliza steps through that door, it takes her to the past, but also puts her present in peril. There are those determined to keep the secrets of the room locked away in the darkness, and are willing to kill to do so. It all leads to a deadly showdown back where it all began, where the past will be decided and the future of Eliza and her loved ones will be determined.
