About This Book

Semi-retired businessman, Marshal Henry, meets monthly with a group of four young fathers as sort of mentor. One of these men tells him about his teenage son having to forfeit a key sporting match. His opponent was a girl which left him with a choice of remaining true to his upbringing-never touch a girl inappropriately-or throw all that out the door for the sake of winning. He chose the former, lost the match, was forced off the team, and endured daily harassment from all levels of the school forcing the family to seek other educational alternatives. The Professor (as Marshal is affectionately called by those he mentors), then takes the opportunity to introduce this small group to the long-established reality of authentic manhood....a reality that he believes is under siege and in danger of being eradicated. And for his study guide, he has chosen over thirty classic poems from such renowned poets as Rudyard Kipling, William Shakespeare, Berton Braley, Elizabeth Browning, Samuel Coleridge, Langston Hughes, John Milton, Jack London, Percy Shelly, William Blake, and many more that lend concrete imagery to what masculinity is and has always been understood to be. The areas of conversation deal with purpose, character, war, love, altruism, faith, and more. So sit in with the Professor and his mentees while they pour over great poetry in search of what authentic manhood really looks like. Come join the discussion.
