When Julia Walters receives word that Adam, the son of her ex-lover Nikki Barrett, is dying, Julia rushes over to Nikki's house to offer her assistance with Adam and also hopes to find closure to the romance that ended abruptly four years before. Upon arriving at Nikki's house, Julia discovers that her ex-mother-in-law, Mavis, is hoping Julia will stay and relieve an exhausted Nikki from taking care of Adam, who is weak and unable to walk, and toddler Theresa, an unexpected surprise to Julia, who she becomes attached to right away.
