A Tangled Web

Sir Peter wants his sister Carola Greton to pretend to be the Marquis of Broxburne's wife, to foil an American multi-millionaire's wish to marry off his daughter to an English lord. Carola was only a sheltered young country gentlewoman, and the Marquis was the master of magnificent Brox Hall and the darling of highest Society. It was a delicate deception, intended to shield the Marquis from the matrimonial ambitions of a wealthy American. Carola could never have foreseen the dangers: an amorous and cynical Duke, a pair of ruthless kidnappers -- and most perilous of all, her love for the imperious Marquis, and a fervent hope that sweet pretence might become joyously real! But it is not easy for Carola and Mary-Lee to find the love they both seek.
