About This Book

This is a story about people from the working class North of England; different sorts of people; first as they were in 1935 as our story starts and then as we leave them at the end of the 20th Century. The setting is a fictional Lancashire town nestling just to the west of the Pennines, but readers originating from these parts will sense perhaps, a flavour of their own origins. Our story is essentially about two families, although others impact upon their existence for good or ill. It is a story of contrast; of family privilege on the one hand and of hardship on the other and the gradual closing of the gap between the two. It tells of opportunities missed and those taken; add the impact of the Second World War and mix in the world of Rugby League and its stars; those working class heroes of this working class game and you have our story.
