A Season for Singing

West Berlin—an uneasy island in a sea of Communism; a place where people live on their nerves. Anne Holbrook, a young widow with bitter memories of marriage, lives here as secretary to novelist Robert French and whipping-boy to his wife, Mirian, whom Anne suspects of having an affair with Charles Ellistone, an official at the British Consulate. The arrival of the French's son, Adrian, and Robert's brother, Ian, upsets the balance of relationships in the house and precipitates a chain of mystifying and frightening events. Anne is trapped in the growing web, cut off from any help by a wall which she feels forced to keep building—a wall of lies.
