About This Book

It's 1946, and Bonnie Jean Cross has had it with her two-timing, jealous husband. After a hectic divorce, she's ready to leave New York and start over. Salvation comes in the form of a letter from her grandfather, asking her to take over the family plantation, Shady Acres, in North Carolina. Bonnie Jean decides it's time to go, and she gets on a bus and heads south. When she arrives in North Carolina, however, she has to contend with Brooks August, the plantation's overseer. Brooks want to run the place his own way, without interference from some city girl, but Bonnie Jean isn't about to let that happen, even though Brooks is the most handsome, intelligent man she's ever met. Worse, both of them live in the "big house" and have to contend with each other on more than just business issues. Bonnie Jean is determined to make Brooks understand that she's the boss now, but Brooks is equally bent on thwarting her efforts. As they work to improve the plantation, Brooks and Bonnie Jean slowly begin to realize their mutual admiration for each other—even though they don't want to admit it. But when Brooks's past comes back to haunt him, can their blossoming relationship survive the storm?
