When you're hot, you're hot - and these days, Carroll Dorsey is definitely not. His Pittsburgh p.i. business is beyond recession, his love life is in intensive care, and the only action he can find is an elderly woman who needs somebody to track down her missing granddaughter. But what seems like a fairly routine sniff quickly turns far darker - pulling Dorsey into the muck of Pittsburgh's booze-and-dope-fueled underground, down with the dirty doctors and bust-hungry cops, and finally into a confrontation with some nasty skeletons in his own family's closet.
